Compress an image to 500 KB

Get a photo under 500 KB at the highest quality that fits. Free, no login, and your photo never leaves your phone or computer.

Your photo stays on your phone or computer. Nothing is uploaded.

Maximum file size

We find the highest JPEG quality that fits. 1 KB here is 1,000 bytes, so the file fits whichever way a website counts.

Size

The pixels stay as they are. Use this to only shrink the file or change the DPI.

DPI

DPI is only a label for printing. It does not change the pixels or make the photo sharper.

Save as

JPEG is what Myntra, Flipkart, Amazon and Meesho ask for, and the smallest file for a photo.

Your new photo will show here.

What 500 KB holds

Enough for a sharp listing photo, not for a full camera file. At 1080 x 1440, three detailed saree photos came in under 500 KB at quality 93 to 94. Side by side with the originals on a phone, the difference is hard to find.

At full size it is another story. The two we tried, 2,196 and 3,422 pixels wide, only fitted under 500 KB once they were about 1390 pixels wide. Still big enough to zoom into, but smaller than the camera made them.

Where 500 KB comes up

  • Upload boxes with a limit. Many website builders, forms and email tools stop at 500 KB per photo.
  • Your own store. Product pages load faster when each photo is a few hundred KB rather than several MB.
  • Myntra, the other way round. Myntra wants files between 500 KB and 1 MB, so 500 KB is its minimum, not its maximum. For Myntra, use the 1 MB compressor instead.

How to get a photo under 500 KB

  1. 1

    Choose the photo

Under 500 KB is already picked. The photo opens in your browser and is not uploaded.

  2. 2

Pick a pixel size if you need one

Keep original size, or choose a marketplace size under Size. Smaller pixels leave room for higher quality.

  3. 3

Take the suggested size if asked

If the photo cannot fit at quality 50, tap the Try button. Its size has been checked to fit at quality 70 or better.

  4. 4

    Download

The table shows the bytes and the quality used.

Need a smaller file for a form? Use the 100 KB compressor.

Any other size, in KB or MB, is on the image compressor.

Listing on several marketplaces? The product image resizer sets the pixel size for each and keeps the file under a limit in the same step.

Questions about 500 KB photos

How do I compress a photo to 500 KB?

Choose the photo here; Under 500 KB is already picked. The tool tries quality 95 first and steps down until the file fits. If even quality 50 is too big, tap the smaller size it suggests. Then Download.

Is 500 KB good quality?

For a listing-sized photo, yes. At 1080 x 1440, the size Myntra asks for, our three saree photos fitted under 500 KB at quality 93 to 94, which is very close to the original.

Can a full-size phone photo be 500 KB?

Usually not without losing detail. In our tests, full-size saree photos only fitted at about 1390 pixels wide. The tool tells you when that happens and offers a size that fits.

Myntra says 500 KB to 1 MB. Which limit should I pick?

Pick 1 MB, or the Myntra size in the resizer, which sets 1080 x 1440 and a 1 MB limit together. A file compressed to just under 500 KB is below Myntra's range, not inside it.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing is sent to SareeViz or anyone else.
