10 Tools Every Ethnic Fashion Seller Needs, with Real Prices

One seller, in the threads we read while researching this list, described an item that sold for ₹123 and came back with a ₹175 return shipping charge attached. That is how most money goes missing in ethnic-wear selling. The sale is the easy part; the leaks are at the edges, in shipping, in cash-on-delivery parcels nobody accepts, in GST paperwork and in photos that don't quite match the saree in the box. Each tool below plugs one of those leaks.

Card on the pink to purple SareeViz gradient reading "10 tools every ethnic fashion seller needs", with the line "One tool per job, free ones first, prices checked on each tool’s own page"

About forty tools came up by name in the seller conversations we went through. This list keeps ten, one for each real job, with the free option first wherever it does the job. Every price was read on the tool's own pricing page on 22 October 2026 and is linked; where a company publishes no price, the entry says so. Some prices are festive or launch offers, so check the link before you pay.

One disclosure: SareeViz, which publishes this blog, appears in one entry, number seven for product photos, with an alternative beside it.

First, what Meesho already does for you

A seller who takes every order through Meesho needs far fewer tools. Meesho charges no commission, its courier collects from your pickup address, it collects cash on delivery with no collection fee, and it pays on the 7th day after delivery. You still pay shipping plus 18% GST on it, and return shipping on customer returns. Our guide to selling sarees on Meesho has the full list of charges.

So if Meesho is your only channel, skip numbers 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 below. They matter the day you take an order on WhatsApp, Instagram or your own website, where those jobs become yours.

1. Selling in chat: WhatsApp Business app

A great deal of saree buying still happens in a chat window: sellers report that older buyers in particular buy sarees on WhatsApp and Facebook Live. The WhatsApp Business app gives you a business number and profile, quick replies, labels and a catalogue where each item carries a price, a description and a product code. Put the price and the fabric in every item: in the seller threads we read, "DM for price" posts reliably put buyers off.

Price and free tier
Free. WhatsApp's own Play Store listing says the app is "free to download and use, with a mix of free and paid features". Meta Verified is one of the paid extras.
Who it suits
Everyone. A Meesho-only seller uses it for suppliers and resellers; a WhatsApp seller runs the whole business on it.
Honest limitation
It is all by hand. Catalogue items go in one at a time, and the listing says in-app orders and payments are not available in all markets, so most sellers still send a UPI ID or a payment link.

2. Graphics and catalogues: Canva

Festive sale banners, Instagram posts, a kurti size chart, a PDF catalogue for resellers: none of this needs a designer. Canva's free plan includes more than 1.6 million templates and 4.7 million stock photos and graphics.

Price and free tier
Canva Free is ₹0. On yearly billing, Pro Lite is ₹1,590, Pro ₹4,000 and Business ₹6,800 a year per person.
Who it suits
Everyone. Most small sellers never need to pay; Pro earns its fee if you want premium templates or the AI features.
Honest limitation
Popular templates are popular with your competitors too, so change fonts and colours before posting. And Canva will not rescue a saree photo whose colour is wrong, which is where “not as shown” returns begin.

3. The credit ledger: Khatabook

Much of the wholesale side of ethnic wear runs on udhaar: you buy from a Surat or Jaipur wholesaler on credit, and you sell to boutiques and resellers the same way. The paper bahi khata works until somebody disputes a number. Khatabook keeps that ledger on your phone, party by party, and sends the payment reminders for you.

Price and free tier
Khatabook's homepage describes its apps as free and says more than 5 crore businesses use them. We found no price list for the ledger.
Who it suits
Sellers who buy or sell on credit: resellers, boutique suppliers, anyone whose wholesaler lets the bill run.
Honest limitation
It is a ledger, not an accounting system: the homepage describes entries, reminders and reports, so GST invoices belong in the next tool. The company also sells loans and insurance, so expect offers.

4. GST invoices and accounts: Zoho Books

With a GSTIN, every sale needs an invoice with the HSN code and the right rate, and ethnic wear has an awkward rule. Sarees count as fabric and are taxed at 5% at any price, while ready-made garments are 5% up to ₹2,500 a piece and 18% above it. A billing tool that stores the rate on each product stops you charging 5% on a ₹3,200 lehenga. It is also where a Meesho seller with a GSTIN claims back the 0.5% TCS Meesho collects.

Price and free tier
Zoho Books has a Free Plan that stays free as long as your revenue for the financial year stays within ₹25 lakh, with one user plus one accountant, up to 1,000 invoices a year, and GST reports and filing. Paid plans start at ₹749 a month billed yearly, or ₹899 month to month, before taxes.
Who it suits
Any seller with a GSTIN. Sellers on Meesho’s Enrolment ID route, who are not GST-registered, can wait.
Honest limitation
The pricing page says nothing about e-way bills. If you send bulk consignments that need them, look at Vyapar, whose Silver plan lists 10 e-way bills a month and Gold unlimited, at list prices of ₹7,499 and ₹9,099 a year (often shown with a discount).

5. Shipping your own orders: Shiprocket, or India Post

Orders from WhatsApp, Instagram or your own site need a courier. A shipping aggregator gives you many couriers through one account, with one screen for labels, tracking and COD cash. We picked Shiprocket; NimbusPost and Shipway are worth comparing. For a few parcels a week, the post office needs no account at all: India Post's retail Speed Post Parcel tariff for 501 g to 1 kg, roughly a packed saree (an assumption, so weigh yours), is ₹48 local, ₹101 within your state, ₹137 to your zone or a metro and ₹143 elsewhere, plus GST. It also offers COD for online sellers.

Price and free tier
Shiprocket's Lite plan has no monthly fee and is described as ideal for up to 5 orders a month, at an average shipment cost of ₹45. Business is ₹199 a month (average ₹41), Advanced ₹499 (₹39) and Pro ₹799 (₹36), each refunded in a month you ship 100, 500 or 1,000 parcels. Those are averages; your rate depends on weight, distance and courier.
Who it suits
Sellers taking orders outside a marketplace. A Meesho-only seller can skip it: Meesho’s courier collects from your pickup address.
Honest limitation
Read the rate card for return-to-origin charges before you pick a plan, because a parcel that comes back has made two trips. With India Post, compensation for a lost or damaged Speed Post parcel is double the postage or ₹1,000, whichever is less, so insure an expensive Banarasi; cover goes up to ₹5 lakh.

6. Prepaid payments: Razorpay

Every order paid in advance is one that cannot turn into a refused COD parcel. A gateway lets you send a payment link in a chat or put a checkout on your site, and it records who paid for what, which beats matching UPI screenshots to orders at midnight.

Price and free tier
Razorpay's standard pricing is 2% plus GST per successful payment, with no setup fee and no annual maintenance charge. Cashfree lists a standard 1.95% plus taxes, and a festive offer, until 31 March 2027, of no platform fee on a new merchant's first ₹20 lakh, some methods excluded.
Who it suits
WhatsApp, Instagram and own-store sellers. Meesho-only sellers can skip it: Meesho collects the money and pays on the 7th day after delivery.
Honest limitation
The fee comes off every sale. On a ₹1,500 saree (an example price), 2% is ₹30, and GST on that fee takes it to about ₹35. If you take a few orders a week, a UPI ID shared in the chat may be all you need for now.

7. Product photos: SareeViz (ours), or Photoroom

Photos earn their money at the return desk. A saree that arrives a shade darker than its picture comes back as "not as shown", and you pay the return shipping. Sellers in our research put a studio shoot at ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 (see our photography cost guide), and were just as clear that buyers distrust AI photos that look fake. The free route is your phone, daylight and a plain wall, with a real flat-lay as the second image, as the clothing photoshoot guide explains. SareeViz is our own tool, so weigh this entry accordingly: it turns a flat phone photo of a saree, kurti or lehenga into photos of a model wearing it.

Price and free tier
SareeViz charges per image with credits and no subscription: ₹10 at 1K to ₹25 at 8K per image, plus 18% GST, with 5 free credits on signup (pricing). Photoroom's Pro plan is $7.50 a month billed yearly, shown in US dollars when we checked, with 8,000 AI credits, 1,000 exports a month and AI fashion models included.
Who it suits
Sellers who list new designs often. A handful of designs a season may need only the phone route.
Honest limitation
Our credits are valid for 90 days, and an AI photo still has to be checked against the real saree before it goes live: if the border or the colour is off, don't list it. Photoroom's free plan is for personal, non-commercial use only, so selling needs a paid plan. More options are in our Photoroom alternatives comparison.

8. COD and RTO: GoKwik

RTO, short for return to origin, is the parcel that goes out on cash on delivery and comes back because the buyer refused it or was never home. You have paid for shipping and earned nothing. The free fix comes first: message every COD buyer on WhatsApp and ship only once they confirm. When orders outgrow that, checkout tools like GoKwik score each COD order for risk and nudge buyers towards prepaying.

Price and free tier
GoKwik's Emerging plan is ₹3,000 a month for up to 2,000 orders a month. The page also lists a 3.5% charge under COD, marked "applicable on all transactions", plus payment-aggregator charges as applicable; above 2,000 orders the pricing is custom. Bitespeed, which sellers name for WhatsApp COD confirmation, publishes no price; pricing is on request.
Who it suits
D2C brands on their own site with steady COD volume. Not Meesho sellers, whose COD Meesho handles, and not a store doing a few orders a week.
Honest limitation
The fixed fee is heavy at small volume. At 50 orders a month (an example), ₹3,000 works out to ₹60 an order before the COD charge. The page also promises fewer RTOs without a number, so ask for your category's figures before you sign.

9. Your own store: Shopify

A store of your own gives you your customer list, your return policy and no marketplace deciding which of your sarees gets seen. It pays off once people already come looking for you, not as a way to find them.

Price and free tier
Shopify has a free trial and a cheap introductory offer that changes often; after it, Basic is ₹1,994 month to month or ₹1,800 a month paid yearly, and using a third-party payment provider on Basic adds a 2% Shopify fee. Dukaan has a free plan with one store, and WooCommerce is free software, though its own page puts hosting at $25 to $350 a month for most stores.
Who it suits
Brands with an audience. A new seller with no following will usually do better putting the same money into stock and listings.
Honest limitation
A website brings no buyers by itself, and sellers report that Meta ads often lose money for small ethnic labels. The fees also stack. On a ₹1,500 saree, Shopify's 2% plus Razorpay's 2% and the GST on it come to about ₹65.

10. One stock count across channels: Unicommerce

Ethnic wear has a stock problem most categories don't: one piece per design. If that single Kanjivaram is listed on Meesho, Amazon and your Instagram at once, two buyers can order it and one order becomes a cancellation. Inventory software keeps one count and updates every channel when something sells. Unicommerce is the large Indian name here.

Price and free tier
Pricing on request. Its plans page lists Standard (one facility, up to 1 lakh SKUs, basic returns management, payment reconciliation and a mobile app), Professional and Enterprise, each with only a demo button.
Who it suits
Sellers on three or more channels, or anyone with many one-off pieces. A seller on a single marketplace does not need it.
Honest limitation
With no public price, you cannot compare it without a sales call. And no sync tool helps until every design has its own SKU code, so start coding designs now, even if the tool comes later.

Which tools you need at each stage

Nobody needs all ten on day one. A seller starting on Meesho can run on a fixed cost of zero; paid tools arrive one at a time as the business moves onto its own channels.

StageToolsFixed monthly cost
Meesho only, just startingWhatsApp Business, Canva Free, Khatabook₹0
Meesho with a GSTINAdd Zoho Books Free (within ₹25 lakh a year)₹0
Selling on WhatsApp and InstagramAdd Shiprocket Lite or India Post, and Razorpay payment links₹0 fixed; you pay per parcel and per payment
D2C brand with its own siteAdd Shopify, then GoKwik and Unicommerce as volume grows₹1,800 (Shopify Basic, paid yearly) + ₹3,000 (GoKwik) + a Unicommerce quote

Before paying for anything, ask whether the job is already costing you money. A few refused COD parcels a month are a WhatsApp message to fix; a few a day may make ₹3,000 a month for GoKwik the cheapest line in your accounts. If your returns say "not as shown", fix the photos before you spend on a website.

Frequently asked questions

Saree business ke liye kaunsa app best hai? (Which app is best for a saree business?)

No single app does everything. Start free: WhatsApp Business for selling, Canva Free for graphics, Khatabook for credit, and Zoho Books Free for GST invoices once you have a GSTIN. Add shipping, payment and store tools only when you sell outside a marketplace.

Meesho seller ko Shiprocket chahiye kya? (Does a Meesho seller need Shiprocket?)

Not for Meesho orders. Meesho’s courier collects from your pickup address and Meesho collects cash on delivery itself. You need Shiprocket or India Post only for orders you take on WhatsApp, Instagram or your own website.

Which GST billing software is free in India?

Zoho Books has a Free Plan while your revenue for the financial year is within ₹25 lakh, with one user plus an accountant, up to 1,000 invoices a year, and GST reports and filing. For e-way bills, Vyapar’s paid plans list them.

What is RTO and how do I reduce it?

RTO means return to origin: a cash-on-delivery parcel that comes back because the buyer refused it or could not be reached. Confirm every COD order on WhatsApp before dispatch, and nudge buyers towards prepaying. Paid tools such as GoKwik add COD risk scoring, from ₹3,000 a month plus a COD charge.

Do I need a payment gateway to sell on Instagram?

Not at first. A UPI ID shared in the chat works for a few orders a week. A gateway such as Razorpay, at 2% plus GST per payment, earns its cost when you need payment links that record who paid, or a website checkout.
